Claim for arms made by Edward Pegge at the Heralds visitation 1662-63 on the basis of arms in Sawley church and family/verbal tradition, result unknown. Said to be arms of Sir Christopher Pegge of Sawley(Meredith 1967).
Thereafter the arms used liberally by Pegges of Ashbourne, Beauchief, Stony Stanton and Osmaston. Crests also shown for Osmaton and Beauchief in "Fairbairns Crests".
I've now been to Sawley and found no visible sign left I'm afraid. Possibly it's behind the Victorian panelling or lost in 18th century remodelling, the vicar has a watching brief in case it turns up.
