William Pelfrey born 1764 Virginia to Floyd County, Ky.??
Does anyone out there, who researches William Pelfrey born abt 1764 Virginia who settled early in Floyd County, Kentucky and married to Nancy (Crabtree or Quarles or unk maiden name), know anything about the possiblity that he was married a second time? Floyd County, Kentucky marriage records contains a permission slip from 1823, for Drusilla Hill to marry David Hamilton. Permission slip states "William Pelfrey and Joana Pelfrey, late Joana Hill said mother of Drusilla Hill" gave consent for her to marry David Hamilton. Drusilla Hill was born about 1805 in Kentucky, she is believed to be the sister of Edward Hill born abt. 1795 Virginia, Spencer Hill born abt. 1794 Virginia and Wesley Hill born abt. 1803 Virginia. There is no other William Pelfrey in Floyd County in 1823 that would be born early enough to be step-father of Drusilla except for William Pelfrey born 1764 Virginia. Could it not be possible that this William Pelfrey was widowed earlier then thought and remarried this Joana Hill, mother of Drusilla after 1805 and before 1823?The permission slip doesn't give the relationship of William Pelfrey to Drusilla Hill or to Joana Hill Pelfrey, but it sounds like a step-father and wife signing for wife's daughter to me.I don't know why William Pelfrey would be signing Drusilla's marriage record if he wasn't her step-father. Any information which will help solve this mystery appreciated.
