If your name is Pelkey, you most likely hit a point in your research where you will find French Canadian ancestors. It is from the name Pelletier and the name was bastardised by census takers who were mostly illiterate and used the phonetic spelling.
There is a Pelletier Association with a web page at:
Unfortunately, it is in french only at this moment, but it is hosted by Mr. Claude E. Pelletier and wife Laure E. who are accredited genealogists. They have published 3 reference books on Pelletiers, which consist of a database of over 40,000 marriages. If you do ask a question of him, please include the wife's maiden name as this is how the database is organized. There are possibly thousands of Joseph Pelletiers for example.
There is also a Pelletier forum right here at GenWeb.
Now if you have some Pelletiers in New Brunswick Canada I would love to hear from you...
Best of luck
