Hello! I am looking for Pelletier, Antaya, or Pelkey cousins. My great-great-great-grandfather, on my mother’s side, was Antoine Antaya dit Pelletier, great-great-great-grandson of Nicolas Peltier and Jeanne de Vousy, of Gallardon, Beauce, France.

Antoine was born in La Baie-du-Febvre, Qc., Can., on July 14, 1795, to Joseph Pelletier dit Antaya and Marie-Josèphe Trudel. On October 18, 1824, at Saint-Grégoire-le-Grand, in Bécancour, Qc., Can., he married Marie-Séraphine Toupin, daughter of François Toupin and Marie-Claire Duplessis dit Duguay.

Antoine & Marie-Séraphine had five children, two sons and three daughters, all baptized at Saint-Jean-Baptiste, in Nicolet, Qc., Can., where Antoine lived and worked as a cobbler:
+ Charles, baptized October 31, 1825
+ Charles-Antoine-Philippe-de-Néri, baptized June 30, 1827
+ Marie-Séraphine-Rose-de-Lima, baptized February 25, 1829
+ Marie-Séraphine, baptized March 17, 1831
+ Élize-Rose-de-Lima, baptized August 23, 1832

This last pregnancy ultimately killed Marie-Séraphine Toupin, who died August 26, 1832; Élize-Rose-de-Lima died the next day. Five years later, in Trois-Rivières, Qc., Can., Antoine Antaya dit Pelletier married Julie Boulanger, widow of Thomas Thompson, with whom she had had at least three sons, all adults at this time. It does not seem that Antoine and Julie had children, and I do not know when she dies, but it was before 1849. Antoine apparently dies in the late 1850s.

As for the children of Antoine Antaya dit Pelletier and Marie-Séraphine Toupin:
+ Charles Pelletier settled in Belle Prairie, Minnesota, USA, where his named changed to Pelkey. His second wife was Elizabeth King.
+ I have found no information pertaining to their daughters Marie-Séraphine-Rose-de-Lima or Marie-Séraphine.

The second son of Antoine and Marie-Séraphine was my great-great-grandfather:
+ Charles-Antoine-Philippe-de-Néri Pelletier dit Antaya was known simply as Philippe Pelletier. He was a harness-maker. In 1849 he weds Rosalie Bail, but she dies while giving birth to their first child. On May 27, 1851, at Saint-Jean-Baptiste, Nicolet, Qc., Can., he weds Julie Lemaire, daughter of Olivier Lemaire/Lemire and Josèphe Belletête. They have three children in Nicolet, Qc., Can., before moving to the United States, where they settle in Concord, NH, about 1858, and where the name changes to Pelkey. Their seven children are:

+ Charles-Philippe Pelletier (Charles E. Pelkey): baptized July 22, 1852; wed Ellen Louise Connelly, February 8, 1875, at St. John the Evangelist, Concord, NH, USA; wed Matilda Verge, September 10, 1919, Lowell, Mass., USA; died April 16, 1941, in Concord, NH, USA. (It is not apparent that Charles E. Pelkey had any children)

+ Oscar-Onésime Pelletier (Oscar G. Pelkey): baptized March 11, 1854; wed Mary Connelly, February 15, 1874, at St. John the Evangelist, Concord, NH, USA; died January 11, 1925, New York, NY, USA; buried at Calvary Cemetery, Concord, NH, USA. Oscar G. Pelkey and Mary Connelly had at least seven children, two of whom survive childhood:
- Oliver Ernest Pelletier dit Pelkey: born abt. 1875 in Concord, NH, USA; wed Hermione Cole, April 18, 1889, at St. John the Evangelist, Concord, NH, USA; cited in New York, NY, USA, in 1925.
- William Charles Pelkey: born October 2, 1881, in Concord, NH, USA; cited in Providence, RI, USA, in 1925.

+Julie Pelletier (Marie-Célina Pelkey): baptized February 7, 1856; wed George-Calixte Bélisle, February 24, 1879, at St. John the Evangelist, Concord, NH, USA; died aft. 1952, possibly in Providence, RI, USA. Marie-Célina and Calixte Bélisle had an undetermined number of children, including Eva-Marie Bélisle, born June 19, 1891, in Pembroke, NH, USA.

+ Philip Alfred Pelkey: born abt. 1860 somewhere in New Hampshire, USA; died May 4, 1928, in Providence, RI, and buried at Calvary Cemetery, Concord, NH, USA, having never married.

+ Rébecca-Elsie Pelletier (Eliza A. Pelkey): born October 19, 1865, in Concord, NH, USA; died September 28, 1919, in Providence, RI, USA, and buried at Calvary Cemetery, Concord, NH, USA, having never married.

Georgie Julie Pelkey: born November 16, 1867, in Concord, NH, USA; wed Charles E. C. Witham, September 18, 1889, at St. John the Evangelist, Concord, NH, USA; wed Theodore Glanville, aft. 1928, location unknown; died aft. 1952, possibly in Providence, RI, USA. It is unclear how many children Georgie Julie Pelkey had.

The youngest son, and fifth child of Philippe Pelletier and Julie Lemaire was my great-grandfather:
+ Napoleon Pelletier dit Pelkey: born abt. 1864, probably in Concord, NH, USA. Like his father and his brothers Charles and Oscar, he is a life-long harness-maker. On September 30, 1912, at Sacré-Coeur, Concord, NH, USA, he wed Fabiola Renaud, daughter of Charles Renaud and Marguerite Gibeault. They have fourteen children; no date of birth is given, to protect their privacy:
- Napoleon Charles Pelkey dit Pelletier: (my grandfather) born in Concord, NH, USA; wed Irene Levesque in 1940, with whom he has six children: Normand C., Richard M., Yvette M., Marie-Rose, Marie-Diane, and Raymond.
- Oliver E. Pelkey: born in Concord, NH, USA; had two children: Loren and Susan.
- Rita M. Pelkey: born in Concord, NH, USA; wed Arthur Herbert Roach in 1938, with whom she had six children: Arthur H., Robert L., Donald D., Richard L., Ronald D., Robin A.
- Claffee Pelkey: born and died at the age of one year in Lowell, Mass., USA
- Leo E. Pelkey: born in Lowell, Mass., USA; wed Patricia Drapeau in 1948, with whom he had two children: Joanne E. and Peter E.
- Irene J. Pelkey: born in Concord, NH, USA; wed Harland J. Perry in 1945, with whom she had eight children: James, Julia, Robert, Barbara, John, Beverly, Lawrence, and Nancy.
- Theresa E. Pelkey: born in Concord, NH, USA; wed Stanley A. Bernier in 1950, with whom she had two sons, Stephen and Michael.
- Paul E. Pelkey: born in Concord, NH, USA; had two sons: Roy N. and Stuart J.
- Oscar R. Pelkey: born in Concord, NH, USA; wed Augustine “Gus” Cabera Castro, in 1950, with whom he had an undetermined number of children.
- Winnifred M. Pelkey: born in Concord, NH, USA; wed Winton Prusia, with whom she had four children: Dennis, David, Karen, and Kathy.
- Gloria Pelkey: born and died at the age of one year in Concord, NH, USA
- David William Pelkey: born and died at the age of three days in Concord, NH, USA
- baby Pelkey: stillborn in Concord, NH, USA
- Veronica A. Pelkey: born in Concord, NH, USA; wed Michael Tucci in 1956, with whom she had an undetermined number of children.

I am looking for any cousins, close or distant.

Feel free to e-mail me at bshoja@smcvt.edu

I am anxious to share what I have learned about our family, and to learn more about it!

B.J. Shoja,
son of Jafar Shoja and Yvette M. Pelletier,
of Nashua, N.H.
