Pronunciation aside, spelling can be confusing as well. Most of the Pelkey families in this forum are descended from Francophone stock. However my great-grandmother, Augusta PELKE (pronounced Pĕl'Ěkē, but probably was originally pronounced Pĕl'Ěkă) , who emmegrated to Pennsylvania was from a villiage in West Prussia that is now in the middle of Poland, closer to Warsaw than Paris.
