Hi,
As far as I can tell, it dose not sound like there is a connection, but that dose not mean that there isn't one. My son's family did not come into Michigan from Quebec, until sometime between 1883 & 1890. They were, "Pelletier's" then, When the children went to school, their school teacher changed their surname to , "Pelky". It was never made leagal.
