Pelkey-Pelletier, late 1800s, Maine
I have just started tracing my family heritage, and can use any help I can find or receive. All dates that follow are approximate.
My father was born in Silver Pond, Maine in 1908, and was one of 10 children. He died on March 20, 1959.
His parents' names are Etienne (born April 16, 1873) and Emilia (Boulay)(born March 22, 1880), who were married on May 16 around 1896.The residence of my Grandparents is indicated as New Canada on their marriage license. As I understand my Grandfather worked on or ran a lumber camp for the Great Northern Paper Company.
Etienne died May 24, 1921.Emilia later married Frank Cyr (date unknown at this time). They had one child together, bringing the total number of childen to 11.Emilia died November 3, 1947.
Family folklore indicates that we aredescendants of the Abenaki (or Abnaki or Wabanki or Wabenaki) Indians.
Any assistance as to additional information on my family, where I can get information from "New Canada," or how I can trace my heritage to the Abenaki Indians, will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
