I want to thank you for your explanation as to why our last name has been "slaughtered." My family always told us that the name Pelletier had been shortened because the Canadians had difficulty pronouncing the name properly, hence the abbreviation to Pelkey.
My father never knew his real last name until he married my mother. By then he was already in the US Army, where his legal name appeared as Leo Pelkey. Talk about confusing to us kids!
Also, thank you for the information relative to the Pelletier Association. I am about to go there now to look for more information.
I have posted a message on this site as "Pelkey-Pelletier, late 1800s, Maine."
Good luck in your search! And, again "Thank You!"
