I am also descended from this Samuel Pell.According to my records he was born about 1635 in London, was in Harlem, Manhattan by 1673 where he took the oath of allegience, and was a shipbuilder on Long Island. In 1677 he was living at Glen Cove on Long Island, and in 1683 was taxed 40 pounds at Oyster Bay, which was a shipbuilding center.
Sometimes people say he also married a Hester Bording, but I am pretty sure that was his son, also named Samuel.Samuel was way too popular as a name in this family so it gets confusing keeping all the different Samuels straight.
Some people say we do not know who Samuel's parents were, but I have a typeset pedigree of unknown vintage that shows his line as going like this:
William Pell (living 1633)
Alexander Pell of Bootleby, Pagnell and Toynton, Lincolnshire m. Jane Harrington of South Witham, Lincolnshire
John Pell of Elkington m. Nfn Warner of Warwickshire
Thomas Pell of Elkington d. 1558
Richard Pell of Elkington, Northamptonshire
then John, Richard, Thomas and William Pell, all of Water Willoughby, Lincolnshire.
Have no idea how much to trust this pedigree from Samuel up, but it is very accurate from Samuel down.
