I think furrier is a relatively modern translation, which evolved with the primary trade of some of our Pelletier ancestors in New France.ie Pelts
I remember many years ago reading in a dictionary that the name was associated with a shoveller of coal. I also thought that it sounded right given that the Pelletiers of Perche were coal traders. The occupation and of the father and son Eloy and Guilliaume (the first Pelletier in Canada) was "marchand charbonniers". The reference for this info is Memoires De La Societe Genealogique.
