I'm wondering if you can help me to understand the French Canadiens last name. I am researching the Felix's of Mendota, Minnesota. Pierre Felix dit Peloquin is believed to have crossed at Mackinac enroute to Mendota. Pierre was a young man and perhaps traveled with a brother (Dana?) The Peloquin last name was dropped and Pierre became Pierre Felix. Can you tell me why a person would choose Felix vs Peloquin or vice versa. Or perhaps you can refer me to a book? Thanks.
