Hi Teri,

Do you think it is possible that the Catherine Zeigler, married to your William Pendarvis, is actually Elizabeth Zeigler? There are several documents in the Barnwell County, SC records that state that Elizabeth Zeigler married William Pendarvis prior to 1809 and left SC between 1816-1819. Two of Elizabeth's brothers married two of William's sisters. For more information on this family see my entry on the descendants of Brand Pendarvis.

I realize that on some level this contradicts the tradition of the Indian woman Hatawa/Hatna/Octavia (seems to be written or remembered in several ways), but it does not eliminate her from the tradition. She was, perhaps, a second wife to William.

Please let me know what you think.
