Jackie,
Thanks for posting the information on the Cornish Pendarves family. I have waited to answer until I could catch enough free time to look back at my records.
I also have the record of James Barnwell Heyward concerning the decendency of our Carolina pioneer, Joseph Pendarvis, as being the son of John Pendarvis, who was a son of Alexander Pendarves. However, I have also researched the surviving Cambourne Parish records by H. Tapley-soper, F.S.A., Exeter City, Librarian, which does not bear out Mr. Heyward's supposition that John married one Anne Arundell, and they were the parents of our Joseph.

PARISH REGISTER OF CAMBORNE, CORNWALL,p. 4:
Pendarvas, Th. & John SS of Alexander 1592 10 ....
Under Burials, p. 96: Pendarvis, Thomas s. of Allexr. 1591 18 June; P. 98: Pendarvas, John s of Allexr. 1595 30 Jan. Thus we see the John Pendarvis, son of Allexander, that Mr. Heyward married to Anne Arundell, died as a child. He could not possibly have been the father of our Joseph. John's brother, Thomas also died young and was buried 18 June 1591.

I would cite the land warrants of South Carolina as a source to prove that Joseph, nor Elizabeth Stonehall arrived on the first fleet (See Randy's Post on the Pendarvis site). I have the same land records in my possession. The children of Joseph and Elizabeth you have listed in your post is correct although I have seen no record that states firmly when they were born, so I have to assume at this point that the births as given are educated guesses. The last name of Joseph's wife, Elizabeth, is still a mystery to me.
His son, John did marry Mary West and then Hannah Keys, widow of John Keys, and they had a son Josiah.
I will check your message further and if I find something I can confirm or deny, I will post again.

I had not heard of John Whitfield. We all try to keep our research mistake free, except perhaps the few who have an axe to grind, so to speak, but few of us have collected the full spectrum of records that may be available. Therefore, we each need to always be careful to get original documents if possible; if not possible, we need the document closest to the original date. I read one document created on the Pendarvis family by a person who does research for a fee; one would hope he was a pro. Yet in the document he wrote himself he cited The Rev. Geissendanner on the birth of the first child of Thomas and Hannah Pendarvis, then later in the same document approximated their marriage as later than the child's birth, citing no document to explain why he had approximated it thus. One has to be careful to check all facts.

I hope this helps some.
Bernice
