J. L. Pendarvis - early 1900s - Miss

I'm interested in J. L. Pendarvis. I don't have the exact dates with me but I believe he was born in the 1850s-60s and died in the 1830s. He's buried in Thornton Chapel Methodist Church cemetary in rural Madison County, Mississippi. I know he lived in Rankin County when he was a boy. He married Mattie Hardy. They had a daughter named Ella. They adopted my grandfather from Vicksburg in the early 1900s but I have no other information about him. I would like to find out more about J. L. Pendarvis as well as my grandfathr, Eddie.
