Thanks for the info, Donna. I am descended from Julius's brother Wilson Albert Pendergraft.

On the Samuel/Sanford issue: I thought it was the eldest son, William S. Pendergraft, who was known as Sanford. He shows up as Sanford in the 1870 census with just one younger sibling, Mary. I assumed his middle name was Sanford, and he was called by his middle name.

According to my records, 4th child and 3rd son, Samuel Pendergraft, b. 1870, had the middle name Cornell, after his great grandfather.

So... is your Samuel William the same as William Sanford??

I'd love to have copies or transcriptions of the obits you have.
