Hi. I believe Richard Penfold was a Surgeon in the East India Company in the early 1800s, howevevr although at first sight he apperas to fit with "your" Surgeon I doubt if he is the right one. Richard was born in 1798 and died at Steyning, Sussex, UK in 1829. He was the son of Rev John Penfold (1764-1840) who was Vicar of Steyning for nearly 50 years. But I am not aware that Richard was married, and even if he did have a daughter she couldn't have been born till nearly 1820 which would make her 40 or 50 years younger than Thomas Hall.
