Hi. I believe Richard Penfold was a Surgeon in the East India Company in the early 1800s, howevevr although at first sight he apperas to fit with "your" Surgeon I doubt if he is the right one. Richard was born in 1798 and died at Steyning, Sussex, UK in 1829. He was the son of Rev John Penfold (1764-1840) who was Vicar of Steyning for nearly 50 years. But I am not aware that Richard was married, and even if he did have a daughter she couldn't have been born till nearly 1820 which would make her 40 or 50 years younger than Thomas Hall. But if you have no other leads you might check this out! Andrew
