I am writing for my wife, Shirley Shugar, nee Penhallick. She is the daughter of Edward Penhallick (Penhallurick).
My Grandfather was Richard Penhallurick who was born 18 Feb 1834 in Gwennap, Cornwall, England. He married Jane Bath who was born 28 Oct 1845 in Stithian, Cornwall, England. They were married on 08 Jul 1865 in St. Stithians, Cornwall England. From the 1881 census, cemsus place: Camborne, Cornwall, England; Source: FHL Film 1341561 PRO Ref Rg11 Piece 2334 Folio 47 Page 41 Richard was a Draper who was born in St. Gluvias, Cornwall, England, residing at 31 Cross Street, was aged 45, his wife was Jane, aged 35 and shown as born in Stithians, Cornwall, England. (Note the difference in birth place for Richard).
According to my records and the 1881 census, the children from this marriage included:
NAME AGE BIRTH PLACE
Ada C. J. Penhallurick 14 Redruth, Cornwall
Henry E. Penhallurick 12 Truro, Cornwall
Arthur Penhallurick 10 Truro, Cornwall
Edward Penhallurick 4 Truro, Cornwall
Martin Penhallurick 2 Truro, Cornwall
(Listed in my records as Robert Martin)
My family records also include:
Adelaide Blanche Penhallurick Born 1884
Richard Percival Penhallurick 1886 (Percy)
John Tristram Penhallurick 1888 (Jack)
The family emigrated to Canada in the 1880s, and finally to the Spokane, Washington area. My Dad (Edward) and Uncle Mart changed their last names to Penhallick--my father said due th the naturalization papers having muisspelled the name, it was easier to leave it that way than to try to correct it.
My cousin, Michaela, (Jack's daughter) has the will and probate dtd 26 Oct 1880 of Blanch Bath, Jane's mother who died 6 Jun 1880 in St. Gluvias. Jane was executrix and sole heir.
Several of my family have been working on geneaological records. I have a chart given to me by a cousin with extensive background on Jane Bath, but I am not certain as to its accuracy. As far as Richard's background all I have is that his father was Robert Penhallurick b. 1788 in Wales, d. 01 May 1859 in Gwennap, Cornwall, married Blanch Martin 28 Nov 1818 in St. Gluvias, Cornwall. Blanch was born on 01 Jan 1795 in St. Gluvias and died 17 Apr 1877 in George Street, Truro. Robert Penhallurick's father was Richard Penhallurick and his mother was Jane Unknown I have further informations on Richard's mother, Blanch Martin, but it needs further research.
My husband & I are currently in Dunsford- near Exeter, in Devon. We plan to travel to Cornwall to see if we can locate additionsal information. There is an old map that shows a place called Penhallurick Waters just north of Stithian's Reservoir near Redruth. Also a place 3 miles south of Tintagel called Penhaloric Point on some old maps.
We will try to update this information if we uncover additional facts. We would also appreciate any information from others researching this family line.
