Zelpha Ray,
I have traced the "Scotch-Irish" Pennick/ Peanick/Penick clan to Lamar, in Barton County, Missouri. Jeremiah Pennick is the father of my great, great grandfather Alford Peanick who was his oldest son born in 1810. Family history holds that because Alford's younger brothers were confederate soldiers, his farm was expropriated and buildings burned. He and his wife and newborn son (Benjamin Franklin, my great grandfather) relocated to Gray Summit, Mo. outside of St. Louis.Tradition holds that this incident caused a rift so deep among the brothers that Alford changed the spelling of his name and was never reunited with his brothers after the war. My research has, indeed, confirmed that the Military Governor of Missouri, the step-brother of William Tecumseh Sherman, had issued orders to expropriate property in 5 southwest counties in Mo. to quell support for the confederacy.Grateful if you could provide any family history about William Pennick, particularly about any involvement in the civil war.
Jeff Peanick
ps My grandfather was named William.
