Hi Sue,
Sorry to have taken so long to answer.
I do not have any Penmans that far back as ,my Robert Penman died before 1855 and have no idea who his parents are.
I cannot even go by naming patterns as there may be other children that I have not found as yet.
According to the IGI Robert married Mary Johnston about 1769. This is a submitted entry not an extract and therefore could be wrong. The first child I have is their son John b in 1785 in Biggar.
If they were married as early as 1769. I suppose it is possible that Mary had Jane in 1808. Thsi would make Mary 55yrs old at the youngest. Assuming that she was 16 when she married in 1769!
All a bit tenuous!
Have you found out any more in the meantime?
look forward to hearing from you.
Muriel (you can cantact me at adam.family@blueyonder.co.uk)
