My name is Peter Smith and I am researching my family who are connected with Brantford, Ontario and at least indirectly with the Penman family of Paris, Ontario. My grandfather James A. Smith was married twice - his first wife was Elizabeth McVicar of Brantford township, whose sister Martha married John Penman of Paris (who was born, I understand, in NY). A month (in 1884) after their son Harold Smith was born, Elizabeth died from complications resulting from the birth. At some point (and I don't know all of the details) Harold was looked after by John and Martha Penman and he later worked in some capacity for John (at Mercury Mills in Hamilton). Do you have other information about the Penman family of Paris? I would be especially interested in contacting someone who might remember Harold Smith (his eldest son was named Penman Smith). My father Donald Smith 84 (Harold Smith's half brother) remembers being invited to the Penman home in Paris.
