WOW, good stuff.I never had the parents for Eliza Penn at all, but had also known about the cousin connection.I believe that I read that in the news article.Did I ever send copies to you? I do have a BEYSEY PENN, born about 1814.I have always been under the opinion that Beysey was either a typo or mis-read for Betsey, i.e. Elizabeth, i.e. ELIZA.
I tracked John Penn and Susanna through the US Census reports, 1840 consecutively until 1870.By 1880, widow-Susanna Penn is listed with Cornelius Erhart, son-in-law and husband of a deceased daughter, probably Mary J.E. Penn.As there is an infant and about 5 children without a mother in that household, I conclude that Mary likely died following childbirth and Susanna Penn was there to care for the children.
I'd like to have the information found in Harriet Sorrell Penn's obit.
Bummer on the Baldwin surname for Susanna.I thought I had a good lead on the Riker connection.Do you find any other Rikers in your data?Do you have anything more on Susanna?
Keep in touch. Our information fits very nicely together.I'm still trying to learn who the father of Robert W. Penn was.Our family is descended through Mary Catherine, daughter of Thomas W., brother to John and Uncle to William R.Family oral history has always been adamantly strong as "direct descendants" of William Penn, despite the absence of legitimate children inAmerica. We're resigned to being descended illegitimately via William's son, "William the Wastrel".
