Hi Nancy!
Yes - we are definitely researching the same family. I have quite a bit more info since I posted the query you responded to.

As you know, Robert Penney (m. Agnes Depoe) and Rev. Joseph Penney were brothers. I've been in contact with another Robert descendant, who actually has correspondence between Robert and his son James (in Arkansas.) His name is Roger Courneen and if you haven't run across him during your research, I might be able to help you get in touch with him. (He moved from the address I originaly had.) He sent me a copy of a re-typed letter from Robert to James.

I was finally able to make the connection between Rev. Joseph and my husband via his son Richard. Naturally, he was the elusive one! I know alot more about his brothers Joseph Jr. and Thomas!

I haven't been able to work backwards yet - have you? I just know that Robert and Joseph's parents were named James and Jean. I don't even know Jean's maiden name. And, of course, I know they were from County Down, Northern Ireland.

Also, there was a 3rd brother named John. The only reference to him is in a letter from James dated 18 March 1851(written in Arkansas) to his nephew Robert Simpson: "Say to him [James' father Robert]I believe his brother John who left County Down Ireland before I was born is yet alive and one of the wealthiest men in a state adjoining this."

What info do you have? This is exciting!!!!!!
Best, India
