Hi Bill!

Daniel (Jr.) Penney was born August 26, 1828 in Ohio to Daniel and Sarah (Tayor) Penney.

Daniel (Sr.) was born April 15, 1796 in Sanford, ME; died June 12, 1876 in Cass Co., OH. Sarah was born January 1800 in OH. They married September 24, 1816 in Center Township, Morgan Co., OH. There children were: Wesley (1818), Jonathan (1820), Bemjamin (1822), Mary Ann (1824), Joannah (1826), Daniel (1828), Thomas (1830), Abraham (1832), Joseph (1834), and Elizabeth (1839).

Daniel (Sr.) was the eldest son of Jonathan and Joanna (Littlefield) Penny. They married in Wells, ME April 16, 1795. (I do not know who Joanna's parents were, but, according to the 1850 census, she was born 1774.) Jonathan was baptized in the Wells Church April 10, 1775. He was the son of John and Sarah (Johnson) Penny. Jonathan and Sarah spent many years relocating before finally settling in Ohio. In 1790 they were living in Sanford, ME. In the 1800 census, they had moved to Dearborn, ME, along with Jonathan's brothers Salathial and John and cousin George. In 1810 they are listed in the census of Greene, ME. Finally, this family moved to Center Township, Morgan County, Ohio sometime in the 1820's. Jonathan appears in the 1830, 1840 and 1850 Ohio censuses. They are listed as early settlers in "Historical Reminiscences of Morgan Co., OH" by Hon. James M. Gaylord. Reprinted from "The Weekly Herald", McConnelsville, OH 1932. Reprinted by the Morgan Co. Hist/Gen Society April 1984. Jonathan and Joanna's children were: Daniel (1796), Catherine (1797), Sarah (1797), Mahala (1803), Edner (1805), Sariah (1807) and George (1811). I have no death dates for either Jonathan or Joanna.

John Penny was baptized in the Wells, Church April 4, 1742 with his siblings Joanna, Daniel and Abraham, I figure he was born about 1732. He was the son of Thomas and Abigail (Grey) Penny. He married Sarah Johnson February 21, 1754 in Wells, ME. She was the daughter of Jonathan and Sarah (Babb) Johnson. There children were: John (1754), Salathiel (1756), Abraham (1762), Daniel (1764), Thomas (1768), Stephen (1770) and Jonathan (1775).

Thomas Penny was baptized October 27, 1710 in the Wells Church. It is said that he lived to be 99 years old, putting his deathdate in 1809. He was the son of Thomas and Joanna (Littlefield) Penny. He married (#1) Abigail Grey April 17, 1731. She was the daughter of Alexander and Elizabeth (Thompson) Grey. Together they had 9 children, although family histories report they had 10 children, but they had: John, Joanna, Daniel, Abraham, (All bapt. April 1732), Nehemiah (1743), Eli (1746) Abigail (1754), Ebenezer (1755) and Peletiah (1758. (Note these are bapt. dates). Thomas married (#2) Adah Hatch January 13, 1759. She was the widow of Giedon Spears, and the daughter of John and Mary (Low) Hatch. Together they had 4 children, although family histories report it was nine children. The 4 children that were baptized were: Joanna (1760), Benjamin and Joseph (1762) and Adah (1764).

Thomas was born abt. 1660 and died aft. 1735. He married (#1) Joannah Littlefield abt. 1705. She was the daughter of Francis and Meribah (Wardwell) Littlefield. Together they had 2 children; Mary (1706) and Thomas (1710). Thomas married (#2) Mary Tidy August 17, 1732 in Wells. She was the widow of George Brawn, and the daughter of Robert and Sarah (Libby) Tidy.

I hopes this helps. I have documentation for most of this information, if there is anything else you need, please ask. I would love to fill in the information forward on Daniel and Mary (O'Brien) Penney.

Until Later,
Laurie
