I have a tree with three brothers who left Italy (one source says Salerno one say they were of the Mountains) together but got on different lines at Ellis Island one spelled it Pape the other two pronounced it Pepe and so began the arguments. These brothers Michael Pape 1857-1940, Thomas Pepe & Nicholas Pepe. Michael married Margaret MacMullen 1868 b London-1946 Bklyn in 1881. They had 10 children three of whom died at birth or were stillborn. I beleive the family church was St Cecelia's Greenpoint Brooklyn. According to grandaughter Catherine DeMarco O'Donnell her grandfather was about 5ft 4 inches a round belly, round face and bold mustache. He smoked a pipe and spoke little english. His talent for the granchildren was wiggling his ears. They were married 53 yrs so by then Margaret spoke fluent Italian which her brother in laws found out the hard way when they made the mistake of talking in Italian about her. The firey red head came back with both barrells. LOL I am just starting this line would love to trade notes with anyone related.
