Unfortunately, I have no additional information regarding my family history. We pronounce Pepe as if it were Pape like paper. I believe this is how it would be pronounced in French with an accent over the first e and the second e silent. Pepe means pepper in Italian but I do not believe it has any meaning in French. My grandfather's brother changed the spelling to Pape to conform to its pronunciation. My cousins on that side of the family all spell their names Pape. My youngest brother even changed the spelling to Pape.
