Elijah Peppers Arkansas/Mississippi

Elijah Peppers is on the 1870 Pulaski County, Arkansas census with wife Mary J. and three children. He is living next to his daughter, Mary Walthall. He is 47, Mary Walthall is 17, and his wife Mary J. is 27. Obviously, Mary is not his daughter Mary's mother. The children living with him are Malissa, Columbus, and Jonathan Ellis Peppers. This is in Caroline Twp.

He next appears in the 1880 census in Antoine Twp, Clark County, Arkansas with wife Mary J. and 4 more children. He is listed as 55, she is 38, and children Lemuel E. is 8, Zedekiah W. is 6, Kajah M. and Charley A. are both 3 months.

Does anyone on this board have info as to who Elijah's first wife was? The census says he was born in Mississippi, as was daughter Mary. His mother and father were born in South Carolina.

If daughter Mary was born in 1853 in Mississippi, he may have still been there in 1860. I cannot find him on an Arkansas census for 1860. The problem is, I don't know where to look in Mississippi. I checked Hinds County, the only place I know of that was a possibility, and didnt find anything. Thanks for any help anyone can offer.
