These Peppers may be related to the Pepper (no 's') familys that migrated to Dekalb after the Civil War along with my Nelsons. There is an Anderson Pepper enumerated in Dekalb in 1880, wife Betheny and children. There are a group of these related Pepper familys. Several older members of my family refered to these families as 'Peppers'. Perhaps the 's' was dropped or retained or added at different times.
