Some background: BOOK J Page 271, Walton Co. John Pepper Sr's will was drawn on Dec. 7, 1851 leaving everything to his wife Esther provided Esther give Mariah Pepper, a grandchild, they raised as their own child, a home and her children too. "So long as the said Esther Pepper, the wife of John pepper should live and then at the death of my (Easther) Esther Pepper, I want all of my property etc. to be disposed of to all of my children. Each child to have a legal share also the grandchild that was raised by the said John and Easther Pepper which she bears the name and title of Mariah Pepper. Which said Mariah Pepper shall have a legal share as though she was my own child Exclusive of her Mother or her Mothers legal share at the death of the said Easther Pepper..."
When Esther died Green B. Smith was the administrator of the remaining estate and the children and grandchildren were given a share. The amount of the settlement was $549 and some cents divided amoung 23 people Beginning December 21, 1868:

Claiborne Sims, att'y for the Heirs of Kelley Pepper (our line)Whitfield Co. Ga. is mentioned and Kelley has already died so his children, John Pepper, Martha Elender Turket and Huldy Esther along with their Att'ny Claiborne Sims married to Nancy Pepper shared in what appears to be $30.00
