Alexander, Jonathan Taylor. Percival's of Ontario/Merrickville 1800s

Alexander Percival came to Canada from Longford Ireland in 1836. He was 10 years old, having been born in Ireland in 1826. While crossing the Atlantic with his father, mother and 3 sisters, two of the sisters died. His mother died about a year later, she was heartbroken from having lost her 2 girls at sea. Alexander's father gave the two children to a Mr. Mark Cardiff (Kardiff?) to raise. He (Alexander's Father) then went to Merrickville/ Burritt's Rapids area. He remarried likely in 1836. He may have married An Bradly or her name may have been Margaret Croft. Their child Roger C. (Croft) Percival was born 1837. He farmed at Burritt's Rapids until he was 21. He was employed by Henry D. Smith's Merrickvlle foundry before he started his own in Kemptville. Eventually he moved to Pembroke which is likely where he started his family. About 1887 Roger C. Percival went to Merrickville and took over the Pearson/Magee Foundry. This is the beginnings of the Percival Plow and Stove Company of Merrickville. The business boomed into the early 1900s. It was originally R.C. Percival and Son company. In 1896 Thomas Harvey Percival (born 1870, son of Roger Percival)took over the business. Additions were added and Roger Percival came back as vice president of Percival Plow and Stove Company Limited, a joint stock company created in 1906. Thomas Harvey Percival moved west in 1912 (Adanac, Saskatchewan?) The recession in 1913 and World War One came and in 1916 the business was sold to P.T. Legare Company of Quebec City. They continued operating under the Percival name and producing Percival Products. Today the foundry is part of Aylings Marina of Merrickville. As a side note the Percivals mentioned here were the owners of The Percival house in Merrickville (one of the biggest mansions in Merrickville)located at 206 Main St East.

Alexander Percival (mentioned earlier) likely would have been a half brother of Roger Percival as they both would have had the same father. Alexander had a son named Jonathan Taylor Percival born in 1857. Jonathan had quite a few children. His descendants are of the Cobden, Renfrew, Pembroke, Ottawa Valley area.

If anyone has any additional information at all, I'd be very glad to hear from you (just send me an email). It would be really helpful if anyone had any specific information about the parents of Roger C. Percival (born 1837) and Alexander Percival (born 1826). Or if anyone wants more information I have I'm happy to share it.
