Emmanuel Perkins frm "The Neck" near Coraopolis,PA
I am stuck at my great-grandparents on both sides of the family tree. The most difficult at the moment has been the Perkins side, since little seems to be known in the family about my grandfather.Using top-down information, starting with me, here is what I know:
I am John Emanuel Perkins, born 6/26/1957 at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren, Ohio.I have two brothers, Timothy Wayne Perkins and Mark Thomas Perkins, and two sisters, Juanita Lynn (Perkins) Stiffler and Nancy Ellen (Perkins) Corbin.
Our parents are:John Albert Perkins, born 1/1/1936 and raised in a small Coke town in Pennsylvania called Martin, and Juanita Mae (Isler) Perkins, born 9/5/1936 and raised a a neighboring town (to Martin) called Sunshine, Pennsylvania.(By Coke, I of course mean Coke as in Coal, not the drug or the soft drink.)
My father has only one full brother, James Earston Perkins (deceased) who last lived in Warren, Ohio (First wife Margaret "Maggie" [Deceased] (Memorial Library at Laird Avenue School in Warren, Ohio, dedicated to her memory) [Children James E. Perkins, Jaqueline "Jackie" Perkins and Joyce Perkins - Joyce had a twin brother who died at birth], second wife Joyce [step children Angela "Angie" Fisher and Jeffrey "Jeff" Fisher). My father also has several half brothers and half sisters (common parents) from both sides of the family. From the Perkins side, William "Cook"/"Cookie" Perkins (First wife: Name unknown - children:Edie, Rose Jenny, Emmanuel "Manny", Tikki and clara; second wife Burle). From the Crouse/Weaver side:Violet, Elsie, Claudis "Cuddie", Dorsey.(More info available on the Weaver Children.)
Staying with the Perkins' for this group and message, my Father's parents are:
Emmanuel Perkins (Some spelled the name with only one M, but all my information, including his tombstone and a Bible of his, currently in my possession, uses two, just as I have it spelled here.)He was born 5/26/1884.(The year is estimated but close)He died while he lived in Warren, Ohio on 2/17/1973.He lived with us for a while until he and my parents felt that he was no longer able to function well enough for us to care for him, at which time he entered into the Imperial Nursing Home on Todd Avenue in Warren, Ohio.(We visited him often and even took our pets - especially Puff, my large yellow cat that had made friends with him!)He is buried in the Masontown Cemetary in Masontown, Pennsylvania.(More info in a second)
Naomi Nancy (Crouse) [Weaver] Perkins (previously married to a man, last name of Weaver who shot himself and died in her arms - we suspect the suicide to be due to the incredible pain of a toothache [consider the time period - pre 1930's - this was common, according to available information). She was born on 6/24/1898 and died on 12/7/1969 while visiting her daughter, Violet Irene (Weaver) Groflo and her Husband Joseph in Cleveland, Ohio. She is buried Masontown Cemetary in Masontown, Pennsylvania.(I will be providing more detail about Naomi under the appropriate group or on request.)
Continuing with my grandfather:
He was often refered to as "Mannie" or "Manny" - same pronunciation, just different spellings. As far as I can gather, his parents were James Perkins (From his death certificate, which I have in my possession) and Mary Jane Perkins.(I have been unable to find her maiden name and the first and middle names are still unverified.)My grandfather grew up near Coraopolis (sp), Pennsylvania in an area referred to as "The Neck."This is the primary clue I have to follow, but for those who MIGHT know more, here is some other info I have:
Grandfather Perkins was, as I indicated, previously married. He divorced his wife when he found that she was cheating on him. There is alledgedly an illigitamate child with the last name of Crofcheck.
Grandfather Perkins worked in the coke processing plants (coke ovens) [as did several other members of the family, including my own father and my favorite aunt - Violet "Vi"].His son, Uncle "Cook" (William), became a minister while he (Cook) was in prison.
Grandfather Perkins became a member of the Mennonite Church and (as much as he was able) attended the Mennonite Church near Masontown.(I have to look up the name pf the city, but the minister at the time was a Carl Opal.)
Grandfather Perkins had two brothers whose names I have not yet discovered. He also had two sisters:Elly Perkins(Note:Claims to have been grabbed by the hand of Satan.Had red, Hand-shaped burn mark on shoulder where she was grabbed.) and Bertha (Perkins) (married name unknown.Died under unknown circumstances. Buried in "Potters' Field in Greendale Cemetery.Known Children:William "Billy")(Note:The Greendale cemetery is located right next to the Mennonite cemetery that is owned by the church that Grandfather Perkins attended.)
One last thing I know is that according to my father, he remembers grandpap Perkins talking about the time that Grandpap's father was listed as dead and then came back to life.
Anyway, that is what I have at the moment...Any help will be appreciated and I hope this helps others who may be looking for this information!
