Chronicle's "Lucky Baby"Gives Alarm to Parents
The "Lucky Baby" for August who won the gifts advertised by local merchants in The Chronicle Lucky Baby Club came very nearly being the most "unlucky" baby, when a fire of mysterious origin threatened to destroy his home last Friday evening.
The youngster is Bruce Kenneth, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elsworth Perkins of 117 Fifth St. So. He was born at the Community Hospital. Last Friday evening as his mother sat with a friend in their apartment, enjoying the radio, young Bruce started to cry. Thinking the sound was keeping him awake, Mrs. Perkins got up to close the door and found the rear rooms full of smoke from a blazing glider couch in a small room off of the baby's bed room.
Carrying the child to safety, Mrs. Perkins called the fire department. The couch was dragged outside and the fire in the room quickly put out.
