darrell, yes i think cousin luther was a minister and luther jr. did play in the johnny cash band. we saw the luther perkins family a lot before my father died when i was an older teenager. big luther was my daddys first cousin. they did visit a little after he died but seldom and that has been 60 years ago for me. i had forgotten delphia's name. luther jr. and johnny cash was trying to get into recording business then. all that was there [my uncles and daddys cousins mostly] laughed and told them they would never make it in recording business. they teasingly told them they needed to go back and pick cotton. they sure fooled them didn't they??? my dad could play about any instrument including the piano, and his brothers all played various musical instruments and they would always play and sing after the meal and on occasion luther jr. and johnny cash would come to eat [they could get a good free meal] and play and sing. then they were known as the tennessee two i believe. they were selling pots and pans door to door, and starving. then they finally after a long while got a record contract with sun records in memphis. i did have most all their recordings and a house fire wiped me out in memphis in 1978. we called them cousin luther and little luther in my family. little luther died when a cigarette he was smoking on a couch caught fire. of course that was when the were boozing and doping big time and and so we lost a very talented musician. i have a nice picture of little luther and some recordings of his on my comp. luther jr. had a lot of gold records on his parents den wall. so sad he left too soon.
take care, blessings, ruth wolfe wilson
