Hi Jane,
Thank you so much for the packet of information you sent me.It is unbelievable!!
The author of the letter to Miss Leah Permar was Arthur Bliss Permar, my Great Grandmother's brother. She was not mentioned in the letter due to some family feud according to my mother.
The title on the lette says " Genealogy of the Permar Family as it was written for the benefit of my father, Wm. J. Permar"
This would be William Emmett (later changed to Jewwet) Permar.
The section starting "Dear Son, there is in the mind ...." appears to be written by Dr. Stephen B. Permar, William J. Permar's father;due to the following references:
"My father, John Permar and his sister Jane, ..."
"The Maiden name of Grandmother Shaw ..."
The section that states "Here the story as well as the genealogy comes to an end" appears to go back to Arthur Bliss Permar's writing;in the next paragraph he refers to "the book my grandfather Permar started ..."refering back to Stephen B. Permar.
So much of this letter was actually a copy of the book started by Stephen B. Permar, My great great great grandfather; as transposed by my great great uncle - Arthur Bliss Permar.
I am going to ask my mother to contact some of her cousins. There was a family rift a few years back so they haven't spoken in many years. However, I have heard that one of the cousins retains copies of old bibles and papers.Maybe someday I'll be able to get a more complete copy of the book that Stephen B. Permar wrote without the editing of Arthur Bliss Permar.I'll keep you posted.
