Joseph Perrault, 1859-1929, Maine

My grandmother, Ethel Perrault, born 3/18/1892 in Farmington, Maine was one of four children of Joseph Perrault, born in 1859 in Canada, and Flora Marcue, born in 1866 in Farmington, Maine. I found his headstone in the cemetary in Farmington, and I found two census entries for the farmily, one in 1910 [as Peno] in Farmington and another in Rumford, Maine in 1920 just before he died. I have tried to no avail for the past 6 months to trace him back to Canada and connect him up with ancestors there. He seems to have shown up in Farmington at the Marcue's from 'whereabouts unknown.' One of the census records has him crossing the border into the U.S. in 1879.

There is some kind of a family connection, according to my father, before he died, with St. Marie de Beauce, but that connection could be from the other side of the family.

I suspect a First Nations/Metis connection someplace back there because we all have 'the look,' especially my late uncle Antonio Perrault, Ethel's brother. And, both my brother and I were shown a photo of a First Nations woman by our grandmother Ethel and told she was our ancestor, but we had to keep it a secret or we would be called names.

I found a Marie Perrault, a widow with two sons, Joseph, born in 1859, and Henrie, in Lowell, Massachusetts, before Joseph showed up in Maine and married my great-grandmother, but I do not have enough information on either of the 1859 Joseph's to know if they are one and the same -- and even if they are, I have had no luck tracing the widow Marie and the other Joseph back into Canada, or finding the name of Marie's deceased husband, whose surname was Perrault.

Joseph is 'the family mystery man.' If any of you Perrault's out there can shed any light on who he was and where he came from, please respond and let me know.
