Thank you, thank you!
This is the information I have been looking for! Now that I have Joseph's date of birth, and the names and dates of birth of his parents, I can start tracking him back the rest of the way.
Flora is the local farm girl that Joseph married. I have her ancestry dating back several generations, done by my second cousin. She was French-Canadian. The couriers d'bois/metis connection is going to be another generation or two back on the Perrault side of the family, if the Perrault side of the family is where it came from.
The Chassie side of the family also descends from French-Canadian courier d'bois stock. [In his youth, my grandfather Chassie was a river driver...] It is possible the metis connection comes from that side of the family. I an quite certain it is back there somewhere because of the photo my grandmother Ethel showed to both my brother and I when we were children.
There are several living Perrault's descended from Joseph and Flora living in the Rumford area. Flora and Joseph had two other children: Ethel and John. Ethel married William Chassie in Bailieyville, ME and my father, Robert Chassie, was her only child. The marriage certificate says "Ethel Perro" so it took me awhile to find it. Ethel was a sharp, successful businesswoman who owned her own retail clothing store in Rumford, ME. Nita had a big family and most of her children are still living in the Rumford area. She and her husband, and later one of the kids, owned and operated the general store in Rumford Center, ME until about 10 years ago. John graduated from college and moved to California. Tony and Leona lived in Rumford their entire lives.
Did you know about Joseph and where he ended up before I posted this? Did you know he existed in Canada but did not know where he went? Or, did you look for him and find him for me? Did you know there are Perrault descendants in Rumford and Farmington? Have you traced the line back past Joseph's parents? Or is that going to be my next project? I am really quite excited that you found this!
Joseph Perrault, my great-grandfather, lived in both Farmington and Rumford. He worked for the Maine Central Railroad. He was older than Flora and died before I was born, but I knew Flora who died in Farmington when I was about 6.
I am going to hit ancestry.com and see what I can come up with on Joseph's parents. Thank you again for finding this for me.
