Bob Bishop's Perrigo Research

Hello Perrigo Researchers,

Here’s my first question (general):

I’ve seen others discussing Bob Bishop of Brimley, Mich., and Bradenton, Fla., who used to put out a newsletter called (first) Perrigo Memorandum and (later) Perrigo Papers. Reports seem to agree that he has passed on, which is not surprising, as I think he was retired when I corresponded with him 20 years ago during my first period of Perrigo research.

Reports also indicate that he authored a book, "DAR Records pertaining to Perigo-Perrigos and Allied Families,” in 1993. An online source, Heritage Quest Research Library ( seems to indicate this particular book was written by Mrs. Alice Perrigo Brown. Here’s the Family History Library entry card:

DAR records pertaining to Perigo-Perrigos and allied families : Abell, Armstrong, Bicknell, Brooks, Brown, Burnell, Dailey, Garey, Giffin, Gutterson, Hall, Hibbard, Holmes, Hurlbut, Loveland, Orcutt, Parker, Rowland, Smith, van Duzee, White, Wilkinson, Wood, Wright : condensation of original document : with the addition of a new alphabetized and coded index. Bishop, Robert E (Main Author).

That would seem to indicate that perhaps Bob revised an earlier work by Alice Brown.

I have only two of Mr. Bishop’s earlier newsletter issues (from 1981), but even then he had done a tremendous amount of work putting together Perrigo lines of descent and doing original research of vital records.

Certainly his work survives somewhere. Where are his back issues? Who acquired his research and database? Is it still in his family? Did he donate it to a local genealogical society?

Does anybody know anything? Where do we start?

Scott Johnson
