I believe that Jusus Perrigo is probably the son of David & Nancy ( ? ) Perrigo mainly by process of elimination. Of the three Perrigo brothers in the NY / VT area, only David and John were in Pownal around the time that Justus was born in 1768. Based on census an known children of these two, Justus seem to fit with David. While there was a Stephen Perrigo in the Pownal tax list, I have found no other evidence of his existance. The name may have been a clerical error.
As to the origin of this Perrigo group, the earliest ancestor appears to be a John Perago who was born ca 1491 in the Picardie region in northern France. He migrated to England in 1513 and was last listed in Greenhurst, Sussex in 1544. One branch of his descendants settled in Hastings, Sussex and were the ancestor of the Robert Perigoe (1624-1683) who came to CT and was the progenitor of the New England & NY Perigo & Perrigo families.
