Allan,
The 1850 and 1860 census is the only ones I have found Joseph H. Persinger in. George P. Persinger and Charlotte King Persinger are my , great, great grandparents. There daughter Elizabeth married James Crowder, they are my, great grandparents. My grandmother was their daughter, Beatrice.
In the Persinger bible that lists Sarah Persinger and Joseph Sparrowhawks children; I believe Joseph H. is the child who's name you cannot read. On the page of Marriages, George P. & Charlotte King are listed as being married in 1865. The information is extremely hard to read, but it appears that all the info relates to Sarah's family. I don't know if Joseph H.'s birthdate is correct anywhere. I do believe he was light skinned and was given to Andrew Persinger to be raised as his son. That is why he is listed as white. Also why he is listed as Andrew's son on several family tree's. I don't know when or where Joseph died. I know George P. died in 1889 is buried in a small "King Cemetery" in Allegany county VA. Charlotte moved with Elizabeth and James Crowder to Indiana. She remarried and died on Aug. 16, 1907 in Ladogo, Indiana. My grandmother lost all touch with reality when I was small. My Dad wouldn't let Mom tell us stories about her Indian heritage. He didn't want us to know. All of her people (that I knew of) have passed away. My Mom would make comments about our "being Indian" but would never tell us more. Very FRUSTRATING.
I'm sorry I can't be of more help.
Loretta
