Hello Andrew. I am a PERSSE descendant and an
avid genealogist with many thousands of names
on my computer data base. You and I are 6th
cousins, our ancestors in common being Robert
PERSSE, of Roxborough, Co. Galway, and Eliza-
beth PARSONS who were married in 1727. My
line of descent is by way of Burton PERSSE
of Moyode Castle, a younger brother of your
forebear, Colonel William PERSSE.
In another message, you refer to the book in
the Irish Narratives series "To the Land of
the Free from this Island of Slaves" edited
by James C. Pethica & James C. Roy. I own a
copy of this extremely interesting book and,
as you know, it is largely comprised of
letters written, 1821-32, by your 3rd great
grandfather, Henry Stratford PERSSE, to his
sons who had emigrated to America. There are
quite a few references in Henry's letters to
my 3rd great grandparents, Walter LAMBERT of
Castle Lambert, Co. Galway, and Elizabeth
PERSSE (who married 1791), Elizabeth who was
a daughter of Burton of Moyode Castle, being
a 1st cousin of his. Their son John (my 2nd
great grandfather) is also mentioned several
times.
At present, Andrew, I have only sketchy in-
fomation (with very few place names) re your
line back to and including your 2nd great
grandparents, Thomas Moore PERSSE & Margaret
HICKMAN, and I would like to learn more. If
you are willing to assist but do not want to
put the data on-line please send a personal
e-mail.
