My husband is descended from Eliza Persse, Burton de Burgh Persse's daughter(Burton Persse's granddaughter). We have various family letters including one from a Cora Lyon who was, I think, Burton's niece or great niece. She writes that Burton Persse used to stay with the then Duke of Northumberland, who freely admitted kinship and who used to say something on the lines of "He has more right to the title than I have and the proof is in Syon House". I think Syon house is publicly owned now, but I wonder if the current archivist at Alnwick Castle has knowledge of any relevant papers?

Hope this is of use to someone.
