In Galveston County TX most people familiar with the name pronounce it "Per-thews" much like "Matthews". The French pronounce it
"Pet-twee" or "Pear-twee" because the "uis" sounds like the "uis" in Louis (Lew-ee). I've probably heard it pronounced a thousand different ways as those unfamiliar stumble over it! The Perthuis in this area originated from two brothers who immigrated from France around 1854.I think my aunt has a copy of the original Spanish land grant!
