Looked a little more at this fabulous website for your family.
Here is some of the deeper histoy (pardon me if you are already familiar with this):
This history tells that an ancestor Peter Hansen b 1774 married Barbara Sørensdatter in October 1797 in her parish of Hostrup, Ribe. "The 1834 census showed Barbara living in a poorhouse in Hostrup parish as an 'Almisselen,' a pauper, though the poorhouse also housed people with mental illness or dementia, which could also have been her unfortunate fate. She died alone on a country road in 1842 at the age of 68; a kind gentleman brought her back to Hostrup church for burial."
Below is the 1840 census in Hostrup, showing Barbara as "fattig" (poor) and living on the welfare of the community. But she is living with a Johanne Pedersen and one would want to check whether this Johanne is her daughter (Danish women in the census would have been shown with their maiden names).
Hostrup, Skast, Ribe, Denmark
Johanne Pedersen 33 Gift Almisselem
Hans Peder Pedersen 8 Ugift Hendes Børn
Johan Christian Pedersen 3 Ugift Hendes Børn
Barbara Sørensdatter 65 Enke Almisselem
This is the only exploration of the family in southern Denmark/northern Germany that I did.
