Bob, Am certain you are aware of this but quite often the person completing the document decided the spelling of the name. example: If the person taking a census record or listing a person as having paid their taxes, etc. was German then he would use a German spelling or whatever. Making it almost impossible 200 years later to determine the original spelling of a name. I have one line that the name is spelled about four different ways over the years.
