Thanks for the reply. As you can see, I don't always get a chance to work on my hobby (addiction).

Anyway, I have some christening records for a William Sneade (Smeed) Pett and his brother John Smeed Pett from a St. Peter's Church, Sandwich, Kent around 1802 and 1805. I am trying to make a connection with their father, John Pett and his wife Susannah Smeed (Smard).

This is where my great uncle and I differ in our notes. He jumped to a Peter Pett and made vague references to the shipbuilder connection. Still no sources for his assumptions. But I will let you know if I find out more.
