William And Lois Pett were my great grandparents. I have a photo and home movies of Lois Barnard Drydale. She was actually born in Saint Augustine, Florida and not Georgia. Her mother was Maria Isabella Floyd. The Floyds were originally from what is now Woodbine Georgia. The ruins of two family plantations still stand but are not accesable. As I know it Lois and William married in St Augustine, I believe the Church was St Mary's but I could be wrong. They both converted to Catholisim, and moved to New York, where William worked for Brown Lent. He applied for a job as an office boy, when he retired he was a wealthy CEO. My father remembers when his grandparents would send out there Packard from NY to NJ to pick my grandmother, his brother Phineas and himself to shop in the city.
I have a copy of a letter from William Sneed Pett senior that was written on August 26th 1878, inviting Lois to come to England. It starts out with the sentence " You see I am addressing you in a very familiar and foolhardy way".
My 93 year old has many more pictures, stories and letters.
About 10 years ago my sister moved to Orange Park Florida, as it turned out the most of my Great Grandmothers family is buried in the Page family plot only a few miles from her house.
My Great grandmother did not have much respect for her father John Drysdale, he died a broken man after losing his wife who died during child birth and losing his carreer as a result of the Civil War.She grew up with her Grandmother in Green Cove Springs, Florida.
