Pettiford relation to Thomas Jefferson

Hi Joann, my name is Crystal Tyler and I am a descendant of Reuben Pettiford from North Carolina. I'm glad you posted this question in reference to Thomas Jefferson because his son Madison Hemings by Sally Hemings has descendants that are indeed Pettifords that I found through research. I found 2 Pettifords in particular [the late George (Jack) Pettiford & Ann Pettiford Medley] on this Monticello site where their pictures are about halfway down the page:

My personal opinion is that I think most Pettifords from the East Coast and Midwest are probably related since I found this map below
http://www.ancestry.com/facts/Pettiford-family-history.ashx?fn=&yr=1840http://www.ancestry.com/facts/Pettiford-family-history.ashx?fn=&yr=1840
that shows Pettiford families at least around the 1800s were concentrated in dense numbers in only a few states such as Ohio, (where Madison Hemings and his descendants the aforementioned Ann Pettiford Medley and George Jack Pettiford are from I think) Indiana, Kentucky and North Carolina.
What do you think? Is there any other research you've found on the possible Jefferson/Hemings/Pettiford link? I'd love to hear back from you and my other possible Pettiford relatives on this subject. I do wonder if the Jefferson-related Pettifords are related to my branch of the Pettiford family. Anyhow, take care and God Bless!
Crystal Tyler
