2.George Pettus, Sen.

This George Pettus, senior, is son of William Pettus (1763-1818) and Mary Knox (sister of Jane Knox wife of Capt. George Pettus, brother of William Pettus).
3.George Pettus, Jr.The above land transfer (#2) of George Pettus, Sr. was witnessed: "I George Pettus, Jr. make oath that I saw George Pettus sign Seal and Deliver...."[It is possible that this not father and son but that "senior" and "junior" simply refer to older and younger. From other bits of information it appears that the "senior" is son of William and the "junior" is the grandson of Capt. George, son of George, Jr., deceased.
4.George D. Pettus
"George D. Pettus:" signed an oath in case Benjamin Sanseng vs. G. Pettus and Mary Pettus that Benj. Sanseng was outside S.C. on Mar. 23, 1823, York Co. Clerk of Court of Common Pleas Journal.

8.Is the above(#7, and #5?) George Pettus the same George Pettus who was baptized on 6 Jan. 1845 in Steel Creek behind Flint Hill Church and died the same day?The Flint Hill Church eulogizes this George Pettus in the words:"...death of our beloved...we lament our lost and Sympathise with his Bereaved family, as a Husband he was lovely, as a parent he was affectionate, as a Neighbor he was friendly, as a Citizen he was Usefull, as a member in the Church he was Consistent, as a Servant in the Church he was Faithful..."
9.George Pettus, Jr. Estate Papers (Case 7, File 289, July 25, 1849) filed)

R. Schorb....The evidence all points to George Pettus, sen. being the son of Capt. George & Jane and George Pettus, Jr. is collecting his part of his father's claim on Capt. George's estate. The estate was not settled until after the death of Jane Pettus..

21.Pettus Family Cemetery:
George Pettus, died 1814, 24 years of age.[Date has been copied as 1814 by three different people but it makes no sense whatsoever UNLESSthis George Pettus was the father of George Pettus who married Mary E. Persons and the last named George inherited the distributive share of William Pettus' estate entitled to his father in which case we have the situation where Capt. George had a son George who had a son George and William Pettus had a son George who had a son George (the last is true but is the first? No records have been found to prove this.]
There are two Pettus females, Elizabeth and Catherine, who lived in York District. Elizabeth Pettus married (1) John Jackson, (2) Boswell Partlow. Jackson and Partlow descendants both have records showing that their ancestor was married to Elizabeth Pettus, b. ca. 1784 (Capt. George L. Pettus was referred to as "of Mecklenburg County, NC" in his father’s estate settlement in Hanover County, Va. in 1782). If Elizabeth Pettus were born in 1784 she would not likely be the daughter of William Pettus who would have been 15 years of age in 1784 and who did not come to this area until 1788 or 1789. Could Capt. George Pettus have had two daughters named Elizabeth, one by the unknown first wife and one by the second wife, Jane Knox? Apparently he did. Could he have had two sons named George, one by the first wife and one by the second? That would explain the George Pettus who died in 1814, aged 24 and the George Pettus who died in 1845, age unknown, but his second wife, Jane Glover, was 57 in the 1850 census. That would make the first George to die the son of wife Jane Knox and the second one who died in 1845 the son of wife unknown.
