Pettus of Cheston Hall, Suffolk, UK

I live in Ipplepen, Devon, UK. Sir John Pettus of Cheston Hall, Suffolk, was the last Lord of the Manor here in the 17th century, and he sold his rights to freeholders.
Where can I learn more about this man and his family? Is there any connection with the name PETERS or PETER or PETRE, which was important in the next parish of Torbryan? The present Lord Petre thinks not.
There seems to be nothing about Cheston Hall on the Net!
