No, the Thomas Pettus whose name is on the pew at Bruton Parish Church in Williamsburg was the son of Col. Thomas Pettus, member of the Virginia Council of State. The date on the pew, 1698 (as I recall) is incorrect. Thomas (the son) d. ca. 1690. His estate in Virginia was inventoried in 1691. Bishop Meade recorded the names of the early vestrymen of Bruton Parish, including Thomas Pettus. The list begin in 1674 (as I recall).
