Thomas/Stephen Pettus??father of

I am totally confused in searching for the father of Stephen Pettus (b. Eng abt 1619) who lived in Va and who's daughter (Susannah) married Evan Ragland (abt1680). I have no wife named for Stephen but that his father was a THOMAS PETTUS from Norwich, Norfolk County, England. My problem is that after checking Ancestry, FTM, and Family Search I find there must be two men named Thomas Pettus who both arrived in Va about the same time and had sons named Stephen or one Thomas Pettus and a mixup in the information. When searching the name Stephen Pettus, it is easy to tell the two men apart..different wives and children, but both men are given the same father, grandparents and great grand parents and Norwich Enland location. Obviously some of the listings were incorrect since they had material marked "private & living". Also had Thomas Pettus fighting for the south in the Civil War. But aside from these obvious errors, I can't make heads or tails out of who is the father of my Stephen Pettus.

I went to my local FHC today but there were no sources there to help separate the two lines. Does anyone have help for me.? I also find notes that "my" Stephen Pettus owned a plantation and he had an indentured servant named Evan Ragland (Ragland was supposedly kidnapped from England and sold as a indentured servant to Pettus in VA. Ragland marries the daughter of Stephen Pettus and lives in Va. Does anyone have anything on this marriage/daughter Susannah or know if the story is true?

Thanks, eas@ coam. com
